| Discreetly masculine, and always well dressed | | When the University of Oxford sends the most strapping of its men onto the Thames – where their rivals from Cambridge await – thousands line the river's banks in anticipation of the latest iteration of the annual Boat Race. These manly tests of strength have a very long tradition, and hours after the competition, the old adversaries used to sit down together in their fine tweeds for a well-deserved ale. Unlike these pleasantries, however, the classic colours of well-dressed English students have not faded for more than a century. |
